  2. Extra dressing (for serving)
  3. Optional: extra lime wedges
  4. Optional: extra chili flakes or black pepper

Method

Step A — Cook the Sweet Potatoes (Steam or Oven)

Option 1: Oven (best texture for boats)

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C / 400°F.
  2. Scrub sweet potatoes clean and poke with a fork.
  3. Roast 35–55 minutes, depending on size, until soft when pierced.
  4. Cool slightly, then cut lengthwise into “boats.”

Option 2: Steam

  1. Steam whole sweet potatoes until tender (about 25–40 minutes).
  2. Let them cool 5–10 minutes.
  3. Slice lengthwise into boats.

Step B — Make Crispy Spiced Chickpeas

  1. Preheat oven to 220°C / 425°F (high heat for crisping).
  2. Pat chickpeas very dry with a clean towel or paper towel.
  3. (Dry chickpeas = crispier results.)
  4. In a bowl, toss chickpeas with:
  5. olive oil
  6. salt
  7. Kashmiri chili powder/paprika
  8. cumin powder
  9. asafoetida (hing)
  10. Spread in a single layer on a lined baking tray.
  11. Bake 20–30 minutes, tossing halfway, until crisp and golden.

Pro tip: If they still feel soft, bake 5 minutes longer. Don’t overcrowd the tray.

Step C — Blend the Cashew-Tofu Lime Dressing

  1. In a blender add:
  2. soaked cashews
  3. tofu
  4. salt
  5. garlic
  6. nutritional yeast
  7. lime juice
  8. Blend until smooth.
  9. Add water 1 tbsp at a time until you get a thick, pourable consistency.
  10. Taste and adjust:
  11. More lime for tang
  12. More salt for balance
  13. More nutritional yeast for “cheesy” savoriness

Set aside.

Step D — Assemble the Sweet Potato Boats

  1. Place roasted/steamed sweet potato boats on a plate.
  2. Lightly grease the inside with:
  3. a small amount of vegan butter
  4. Spoon in:
  5. cashew-tofu lime dressing
  6. Add a generous scoop of:
  7. crispy chickpeas
  8. Top with:
  9. fresh cilantro
  10. Serve immediately (crisp chickpeas stay best while warm).

Serving Suggestions (optional)

  1. Add extra lime squeeze just before eating.
  2. If you like heat, sprinkle a pinch of chili powder over the chickpeas.
  3. Pair with a simple side salad (cucumber/tomato) for extra freshness.

Luteal Phase Benefits (why it helps)

The luteal phase (after ovulation, before your period) is often associated with cravings, mood swings, water retention/bloating, lower energy, and digestive sensitivity. This bowl supports you with:

  1. Satiating carbs + fiber (sweet potato + chickpeas): helps steady blood sugar and can reduce intense snack cravings.
  2. Protein & healthy fats (tofu + cashews): supports neurotransmitter production and helps keep you fuller longer.
  3. Magnesium + potassium (sweet potato): supports muscle relaxation and may help with bloating/“puffy” feeling.
  4. Iron + folate support (chickpeas + tofu): luteal phase can coincide with lower iron reserve needs; plant-based nutrients support overall energy.
  5. Anti-inflammatory spices (cumin + chili/paprika + garlic + lime): flavor with potential gut-friendly and anti-inflammatory benefits.
  6. Lime + garlic + nutritional yeast: brightens digestion and makes the dressing more “comfortably savory,” reducing the urge for less nourishing options.

(Note: This is general wellness support—not a medical treatment.)
